If You’re Having Trouble Sleeping

If you know me, you know I’m all about optimizing my sleep. Most nights, I work late and get up early, so I need to make the most of the sleep I get. While I don’t measure my sleep with a wearable device, I can tell by my mood and energy levels the next day if I’ve had a good night’s rest. Here are a few of my must-haves for a great night’s sleep:

Weighted Eye Mask: This mask helps me relax before sleep and keeps me from looking at my phone right before bed. I love blocking out all light and the gentle weighted pressure on my face.

Mouth Tape: This might sound unusual, but mouth tape has made a big difference for me over the past year. It helps me sleep deeper and prevents jaw clenching. I wear it along with my sleep guard retainer and usually sleep through the night. I use a three-inch strip of tape placed horizontally over my mouth. Occasionally, I do pull it off in my sleep, but it generally stays on all night.

Kindle: I love reading on my Kindle, especially when I’m having trouble falling asleep or want to avoid my phone. It’s so convenient to keep on my nightstand and perfect for winding down. Just finished: *First Lie Wins* by Ashley Elston. Currently reading: *One of the Girls* by Lucy Clarke.

Superhuman Meditations: My favorite guided meditation app, ideal for sleep meditation either right before bed or playing all night long. My top picks are “Wave Sounds + Self Love Reprogramming for Sleep” and “Release Body Aches + Tension Before Bed.” I also love playing a quick meditation first thing in the morning to start my day with positivity and gratitude.

Canopy Humidifier: If your air is dry, this is a wonderful addition to your home. It hydrates both hair and skin and doubles as white noise when placed near your bed. I fill it up right before sleep and add aromatic diffuser oils for amazing scents. Currently using: Pink Taffy by The Skinny Confidential.

Parachute Organic Cotton Puff Comforter: If you’re looking to splurge on bedding, this is the one. It’s light and fluffy but also keeps you warm and is incredibly comfortable. I have nothing but rave reviews for this comforter.

Block Out the Haters: Your Ultimate Summer Guide

It’s summertime—the best season of the year! Time to stay focused, positive, and soak up some sun. Here are a few ways to enjoy that vitamin D while protecting your peace and your skin.

Strong Confident Empowered Hat: Ready for your hot girl walk? This hat is the perfect accessory to keep you cool and protect your face while you get your daily dose of sunshine. It's all about bringing in those positive vibes.

Prada Sunnies: These trendy sunglasses are a must-have. Whether you choose Prada’s or their dupes, you’ll prevent squinting and look stunning. I wore these for the Command Force auditions this year and absolutely loved them.

Elta MD Sunscreen: My absolute favorite sunscreen. I wear it every day, rain or shine, winter or summer, inside or outside. It’s been amazing for my skin over the last six years. It’s light, NP recommended, and doesn’t leave a thick or oily residue. Honorable mention goes to Supergoop Glow Screen. I used it in Tulum and it was fantastic.

Break My Soul by Beyoncé: This song is my go-to for turning a rough day around. It’s a powerful reminder that you are your own person and life is too short to feel down. Blast it, have a dance party in your room, and remember—you are amazing.

AirPods: Whether it’s music, podcasts, or meditations, I always have a soundtrack to my life. AirPods are perfect for your walk, working at the coffee shop, talking on the phone, or just giving off that DND vibe to your coworkers.

NARS Tinted Moisturizer: A classic favorite since my Flybarre days, this tinted moisturizer is perfect for workouts, running errands, or hanging out with friends.

GLOSSLAB Review

GLOSSLAB recently opened in my Washington, DC neighborhood. I’d previously heard about GLOSSLAB from a few NYC influencers I follow on Instagram, but hadn’t tried the service until I was invited as an ambassador.

GLOSSLAB prides itself on being the modernized manicure. They are hygiene first, waterless and efficient, and membership-based. They are also woman-founded, which I love.

I first tried the gel pedicure because I’m usually an acrylic girly. I was so happy with the pedicure that I switched from tips to a gel manicure with my natural nails. So I’m officially a GLOSSLAB believer.

A few things I love about GLOSSLAB:

  • The entire process is easy and efficient (perfect for the gal on the go)

  • Services take less than an hour

  • The staff is friendly (not always my experience with other nail salons in DC)

  • Completely waterless. No tub or water is used. I love this because I usually have a spray tan. They do cleanse, moisturize, and scrub.

  • Gratuity is added into your total cost. A pro because it minimizes the decision making process.

  • Everything is aesthetically pleasing. The pedicure chairs are comfortable and practical. A pop playlist plays the entire time. Winning.

A few pro tips before visiting GLOSSLAB:

  • I recommend booking online versus walking in. GLOSSLAB is new to DC so there’s a limited amount of staff.

  • If you have hard gel or anything other than the GLOSSLAB gel on your nails, you need to get it taken off at another salon.

  • GLOSSLAB uses their own products.

  • I recommend the membership. It’s definitely the best bang for your buck.

Why I Became a Fitness Instructor

When I worked full time in an office job, I remember waking up in the morning, looking in the bathroom mirror, and thinking, “I’m so unfulfilled. I’m not helping anyone.”

That was a tough pill for me to swallow. Eventually, I changed it.

I’ve always loved movement. I’ve danced since I was 3 years old. I was a collegiate dance athlete. I danced professionally for 6 years in the NBA. It’s always been a part of my life one way or another.

I remember getting off work and going to take a workout class. The instructor was pumped up, having the time of her life, and encouraging people of all backgrounds and sizes to dance their asses off and push their bodies a little more than they were used to. I LOVED it. I wanted to help people in the same way.

I spent several years working full time, dancing for the NBA, and choreographing as a side-gig before I gained the confidence to leave my full time job. In January 2017, I finally did.

I’m so thankful for the communities I’ve been a part of and founded, the people that I’ve met, and the friends that I’ve made through movement. It has literally changed the trajectory of my life.

Since the day I decided to go out on my own as a fitness instructor, dancer, and choreographer, my heart has always felt fulfilled and I’ve always felt like I was helping someone. Even if it was something small. I physically and emotionally feel like I’m making a difference in the world.
