Today marks my first day of official self-employment and entrepreneurship! For any of you who know me, you know this is huge! I've been talking about wanting to take this leap for years, and I finally made the decision to do it! :)
In May 2015, I officially created an LLC and became the proud business owner of Powerhouse Danceworks. Powerhouse Danceworks is a choreography and dance instruction company created to share the love of dance with teams and individuals across the nation. Prior to creating an LLC I had always loved choreographing dances and sharing my love for dance. While I attended the University of Kentucky, with the encouragement of my parents and my dance coach, I started choreographing with high school teams and studios consistently. Dancing and performing is my first passion and love, but choreographing definitely earns second place.
After I graduated from the University of Kentucky, I moved to Washington, DC where I was fortunate enough to become a member of the Wizard Girls. I am currently in my third year as an NBA dancer! In those three years, I've worked a full-time marketing job, part-time with the Wizards, and in my spare time built my company and choreographed with many amazing dance teams across the US!
After much thought, internal turmoil, and discussion with family and friends, I've decided to follow my heart and my passion as a full-time entrepreneur, choreographer, instructor, and dancer. Wooooo!!!
First things first, I truly believe sharing my love for dance with others is my purpose on earth. Dance is my passion, my dream, and has brought me so much joy throughout my life. I've met my BEST friends and some of the most influential people through dance and feel at my best when I dance. I want to spend my time sharing what brings me joy with others who have the same passion.
Seems simple enough, right!? Well, the decision to move on from my full-time job and pursue life as an entrepreneur took many months of praying, thinking, and working my butt off! It's scary! 2016 was one of the BEST and most successful years I've had personally and professionally, especially with dance and choreography. I started thinking about taking the leap again in May 2016 when I was vacationing with my high school best friends in New York City. These thoughts kept churning in my mind through the summer, especially after the many wonderful opportunities with dance and choreography. I am sooo thankful for all these amazing opportunities! In August 2016, I came back from Rio De Janiero with the Wizard Girls (best dance trip of my life!) where I was performing every day. It was incredible. The next weekend I choreographed a pom and a hip hop routine back to back for one of my teams in Lexington, KY. These events greatly helped my decision to listen to my heart and try working again towards teaching and growing Powerhouse Danceworks. Since I made that decision, I've planned and worked really hard to start my goal in 2017.
Today, January 23, 2017, marks the day I embark on this journey! I know it's going to be incredibly hard work, take a lot of budgeting, odd jobs, frugality, and discipline, but it's going to be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. I'm so excited for the future! <3
If you made it to the end of this post thank you and I hope I've inspired you just a little bit to continue towards your goals and dreams! I'm going to keep posting about my adventures, thoughts, and life goals. :)
